Butterfly Koi Breeding

Butterfly Koi For Sale Breeding

BROODSTOCK - Butterfly koi fish breeding starts with maintaining quality broodstock. Ozark Fisheries' koi farm production staff continuously selects butterfly koi fish to put back for future broodstock. Those butterfly koi fish are then sorted through multiple times as they mature, narrowing down the selection of broodstock to only the best.

SPAWNING - The first signs of butterfly koi fish spawning typically begins in April and can run as late as July. Ozark Fisheries koi farms' use two methods to spawn butterfly koi. The first method is koi pond spawning and the second method is tank spawning. Koi pond spawning is done by placing mats along the edges of our koi farm mud ponds and allowing the butterfly koi fish to spawn naturally. Once signs are shown that the koi have stopped spawning, the mats are removed from that pond and transferred to another mud pond were the butterfly koi fish eggs will hatch.

Tank spawning is done by placing our butterfly koi fish brooders in heated tanks and allowing them to spawn over mats. This method is much more controlled as more butterfly koi fish eggs can be collected do to the location of mats as opposed to pond spawning. Once the butterfly koi have finished spawning the mats are removed from the tank and placed in another heated tank inside our hatching building. These butterfly koi fish eggs are then monitored 24 hours a day for 3 days, making sure the environment is perfect for these beauties to thrive. Once hatched, our butterfly koi fry (baby butterfly koi) will stay in these holding tanks for a few more days before they will hauled to a mud pond.

POND TREATMENT - Our koi farm mud ponds are constantly being monitored by our production staff to make sure the environment is just right for our broodfish and butterfly koi fish fry. Ponds must be checked for overcrowding, koi feed intake, bugs, weeds, oxygen levels and koi predators (just to name a few).
